Reconstruction of a Celtiberian high-ranking warrior from the army of Hannibal Barca

In addition to what is present in this photo and already discussed above, this warrior presents a sword from a few decades earlier and a scabbard from an earlier era, used for this reproduction as it is the only decorated scabbard coming from the reference area.

The shield in this case is a Gallic model, with a wooden spine and a iron umbo. In fact, both Diodorus Siculus and Tito Livio make mention of scutati Celtiberians, equipped with shields identical to those of the Gauls. The use of these shields seems limited to the Punic Wars, probably to respond to the military needs of the Carthaginians.
